I like monoprices pure outdoor stuff usually but if you have ever tried to use that type saw, fire starter, etc you realize pretty quick that a lighter or matches and a real foldable saw etc are infinitely more useful.
Yes it's $20 but half the stuff is throw away imho.

Agreed. A pack of weatherproof matches in a survival kit makes sense, but also just throw in a Bic lighter in a ziploc.

Agreed. The garrote would be lucky to make it through the fleshy parts, let alone the spine, without snapping.
So this has three (3) bottle openers, two (2) can openers... listed but only one (1) each in the photo? I have bad experiences with purchasing items on line that have errors in the descriptions; just saying. Still considering purchase for grandsons if their parents preapprove.
Yeah lots of as you put it, throwaway items, in this bundle. That pocket knife is a design that companies have been giving out as promos for decades. The little flashlight was really popular about 10 years ago, maybe it still is today but they were often on slickdeals at prices like 2/$10. Nice and bright, but burn through an AA crazy fast. Others have pointed out the weak points of some of the other items.
I realize that it's supposed to be "cheap" but this looks well below ozark trail quality even.
Honestly you could probably get all of these items separately from the dollar store for way cheaper. That said, this survival kit has basically none of the necessities for outdoor survival so I don't really know who it's for.
No waterproof matches (flint is cool, but without dry tinder you're SOL), rounded dull sawblades on the pocket "knife" (and redundant with the wire saw), no paracord, no first aid essentials, no water purification tablets, the flashlight batteries will corrode in about 6 months (I have that flashlight from Aliexpress), and the "tactical" pen will be useless in the great outdoors without at least some paper for goodness sakes. Basically someone raided the junk drawer and called it a survival kit.
The only useful items here are the space blanket, the whistle, and maybe the compass. This kit is embarrassingly bad.
This thread had 13 posts at the time of my comment, and every single one of those comments are from people who rightly see that this is a shitty deal, these are not good products, and this is not a good price for this bundle of products.
Despite the avalanche of agreement that this is a shit deal, this thread is sitting at +7 and likely on the verge of being put on the Front Page.
The thread was posted by an SD Staffer and I suspect that the positive rating comes from other staffers stuffing the ballot box.
Shane on you guys - this deal is dog shit and you're trying to pump it to the community.
Someone clearly has never played Fallout. Do you know how those 'caps' got removed from the Nuka-Cola bottles??? How do you expect to survive the impending nuclear event with such (lack of) skills?

Not sure why you think that knife is a joke, it can cut the stem off of a grape! And those scissors, right through a plastic bag. I'm in.

100% the striker is only good if a bunch of hair spray was applied prior as well.
Not to mention I prefer the thick clear plastic as well vs the emergency blanket included it makes less sound and holds in stuff better.
