Btw, the Costco and Lowe's versions aren't compatible. The lids are different. We have Costco bins and I bought one at Lowe's and it won't stack perfectly with the others

If you take a photo of contents and make a QR code associated with each bin & tape it on, you can instantly see what's inside the containers.

I can speak on the hdx vs Costco one as I have a mix of about 25 of them (15 hdx, 10 Costco)

Build quality there indistinguishable. Few small details

1. Costco one is slightly darker yellow
2. Even though there both 27 gallon the Costco one dimensions wise is a inch or two bigger
3. Costco ones come with a small label on them to allow you to write what's inside

One last and important thing, you can stack the hdx ones on top of the Costco ones but not the other way around

Overall because of this sale I go with the Costco ones. I wish they did come in bigger and smaller sizes like the hdx ones

I just stack them about 4 to 5 high off the floor, heavier stuff at the bottom. I'm moving so I have to put a lot of stuff in storage for a year or two (luckily family is offering me space to put it for free). Some of the stuff was already moved in cardboard boxes and the cardboard isn't holding up... so totes for long term storage it is.

I also either use my label maker to make labels for each one, or write on masking tape with a sharpie and stick it on the side. I'm trying to keep documents of what box everything is in so I know where it is when I go looking for it.

How do you link a photo to a QR code?

Upload an image to a site like https://postimages.org/

Then Google "Free QR Code" maker and link that image to the QR code you create

I like this idea, but it probably isn't great to post to a public site. Instead, you can just grab the URL to the photo in your cloud backup if you have one (Google Photos, iCloud). That way, there is a layer of authentication between your picture and the rest of the world.

Does anyone have a good way to seal those useless "padlock" holes?

I'm thinking aluminum foil tape. The aluminum would keep sunlight off the glue.

Same for Home Depot version and Costco versions... they are different dimensions so you can't stack then interchangeably with each other (not sure whether Lowe's and Home Depot are the same dimensions).

Personally I prefer the Costco ones primarily based on price... They come around on sale fairly often.
Costco ones are the best, but they do stack with the lowes ones idk why people are saying they dont

Bugs me that I can get the 27g for less than the smaller size. I need some more of the smaller totes since my kids can't lift the larger ones when full.
I just want some under bed storage that isn't $50-$100 each. Moving to a 1/1 with my partner so we just need a bunch of places to store "winter clothes" and bedding as we live in Florida.

Ziplock jumbo big bags might work for you.

Check out the Boxes app. You can generate a QR code to put on the box and take a picture of the contents so that when you scan the QR code you can see what's in there. Good luck with the move!

Does this container prevent bugs from going into the contents if stored in garage?
