Just got mine. Trips three different 20 amp gfi breakers. Gave it an hour and it couldn't cool a 24 by 12 room. It's super heavy and now I have to deal with a return. What a hassle!

This looks like a rebranded midea duo. I bought one hoping it is I almost bought the midea duo from Costco (they sell it as a 12000btu). From the research I've done, the midea duo 14000 is the best in it's class. It was Wirecutters top pick and other sites recommend it too.
I have the Toshiba version of the same thing I bought last year for 300. Be sure to add the extended warranty. It's loud but works great.
Got the same $300 deal last year as well, worked great last summer though I only needed it for occasional 2-4 day heat waves. Didn't get the extended warranty, I'll be pulling it out of storage soon for this summer (it's been a cool one so far in NorCal), cross my fingers it'll still be working fine.
As far as portable units go, it's a powerful and efficient dual-hose unit. I did experience a bit of what I've seen in occasional reviews, that the unit tends to throttle down to lower than max output - efficient since it's an inverter type, but not cooling the room as quickly. I think it depends on how you have the unit situated to throw the air, sometimes it's cooling the air around it so quickly than it can throw the air out to the rest of the room, so the unit's thermostat gets tricked into throttling down. I was limited by where I had to place the unit to get the room air better circulated, so I used the nifty remote setting to read the room temp off the thermostat built into the remote itself, rather than on the main unit - you just have to find a place in the room to leave the remote that also has a good line-of-sight to the main unit....

What does an inverter do? I am not in a humid climate though if that matters. Thank you sincerely!

it's how the motor works. instead of starting the motor everytime it needs to run, inverters just slows down the motor and you save energy that way
Inverters change AC to DC current.
The compressor motor in this unit runs on DC and because of this, it can be run at variable speed versus a traditional AC compressor that has only 2 settings: on (full speed) and off.
This [usually] translates to better efficiency and a lower power bill unless the unit still needs to run at full load all the time, in which case it would likely cost the same or even a bit more to operate (than a traditional unit) due to losses in AC>DC conversion.

This and the OP is the same exact unit rebranded. 450 is a great deal for brand new with warranty. Sometimes they'll have it in store and would be a hair cheaper by another 20-30. Good eal

Thank you so much for your very clear explanation!!! Don't laugh, but do you know anything about bathroom exhaust fans? I want one that really sucks out the steam. I've got a new issue with mold on the ceiling, and am getting that taken care of soon. I definitely need a new exhaust fan though. thank you!!! (don't eye roll me too much here. haha!
