Maybe not very user friendly is a better way to put it. The HEOS and control app lead a lot to be desired

Is it right that you can Spotify and Airplay to these units without interacting with its own software? If so, the quality of their app matters less to me.

Yeah. This receiver is selectable via Airplay from my iPhone or Mac and I can stream directly to it without interacting with the receiver.

Related, the specs for the S970H include support for Dolby Atmos Music, which the S760H lacks. This seems incredibly vague, does it refer only to the built-in apps? Presumably an HDMI player could send the right tracks to the AVR regardless of whether it's video or music.

I'm able to get Atmos Music using Apple Music via my Apple TV connected by HDMI. However, playing the same song directly to the receiver via AirPlay 2 does not result in getting Atmos.

I have something like this and I use RC to 3.5mm headphone jack to connect laptops and phones to play music. When the unit is on and I touch the headphone jack even a little bit it makes a crazy loud painful sound. Is there any way to stop this? My unit is not bluetooth capable.
