I have had this for about 6 years, and it works great.I use it as much as my green egg. One pro is since it's analog, you can unplug the heating element and clean it with a pressure washer. Try that with a digital smoker πŸ˜† . I do use a smoke tube laid across the heating element for more smoke. It's very easy to use and clean.

Awesome smoker. Can't beat this for the money.

I had the digital one and after a few years the digital panel went out so I couldn't turn it on. They sent me a new one and I was back in business. If I bought another one, this is the one I would get. Don't get the one with the window, after 5 minutes you can't see shit anyway.

So I just ordered the digital one today? Is the digital really worth the $70-80 over this one?
Am I correct that with this one you have to start the pellets/chips manually while the digital one will ignite the chips for you?

The "digital" part is compartmentalized and not accessible within the main chamber, so pressure washing both would be the exact same. In fact you don't even have to unplug the heating element unless it's turned on, which of course it should not be. Fun fact, you can also pressure wash most modern phones. They are completely digital.

The person saying it is blue smoke is also incorrect. This works by using a heating element much like an old-school stove, then burning wood chips on that hot heating element. It works and it works well, but you're basically creating an old school camp fire. You're also not going to get any sort of smoke ring at all on it. That's cosmetic only so not a dealbreaker.

In summation, look back at any of the other electric smoker threads from the last entire decade. This one has by far the dumbest comments, and I'm not sure what that means about humanity.

No.

How does this stuff even start. "Hmm.. I have no idea what the difference is between analog and digital. I could look it up, but nah. I sure hope it doesn't mean you have to fire up the chips manually. Hey! What if that's what it means? Am I correct that with this one you have to start the pellets/chips manually while the digital one will ignite the chips for you"

I had this model and I returned it because I had a couple issues with it. 1) it trips fuse frequently. 2 ) you need to open the door frequently to change wood chips. This models needs too kuch incolvement.Other models have the ability to change chips without opening.

I heard soon there will be cars that run on electricity, too, but I'll believe it when I see it.
They've had cars that ran on electricity for two centuries and they're still garbage.

Fill it with pellets, light one end with a blowtorch, it burns for about 3.5hrs.

I have this one. Bought it on a Lowe's BF deal a few years back. It worked well but I don't like having to open the door to refill the wood chips. It let's out the heat and the smoke. My heating element went out on it so I am debating on a new element or getting a new one that allows me to put wood chips in without opening the door.

The digital versions go on sale a lot for around $30 to $40 more than this Analog not so hot deal.

Yes, digital is a HUGE improvement and worth the extra.

Had the analog version for 4 years (Aldi's sale $99), and while I figured out how to get it to work well, the temperature swing was wild, at around 50 degrees from on/off/on, sometimes more, sometimes less. Cook time consistency was very bad (hours difference).

After seeing the digital on sale for $149 at Lowes: John McLemore Signature Series, figured I've give it a try. Gave the analog model away for free a month later. Temperature swings are now steady 20 degrees on/off/on and always get consistent results. We smoke year round and the digital version is awesome. The wood chip tube on the side allows you to easily add wood chips without opening the door and also allows you to add a cold smoke attachment. Google smoker forums (MES) to see for yourselves, those that had both will never go back to analog. There was issue with early digital models control panel failing, which can't happen with analog, but those issues now seem long gone.

You can smoke with electricity because there's a heating element under the chip tray that gets the wood smoking. Electric smokers actually do a great job.

However, I'm not a snob, but I still wouldn't recommend this model. As has been stated, you'll lose any heat every time you need to add wood chips because the only access is the one, main door. Also, this is a small smoker. You'll be good for a few months and then you'll be looking to upgrade.

If you really want to smoke food, and will keep it up, invest a little more and get a bigger model with better features. Again, I'm not a snob and I don't have any "extra money" laying around to buy things. I'm just giving you my honest experience.
