I've ordered several plants from Costa Farms. They do an amazing job of packaging. There's never even been a drop of soil out of place (except the time the UPS drive ignored the giant UP arrow and left my plant outside my front door upside down).

Same, I do this routinely with plants I can't source locally. They always come well-packaged and intact. The worst situation I've had is a little bit of soil coming loose.

Aloe is one of those plants that puts off little "pups" constantly. If you know anyone who is into plants, there's a good chance they have more aloe pups than they know what to do with. I get dozens a year and just give them away.

Not sure about eating, but it's "medicinal plant", AFAIR.

Yes, cut the leaf off, make a slit and extract the aloe vera gel. It makes for an excellent thickener for jello, custard. You can drink the gel as is and it has tons of benefits. You can also apply the gel to your hair and skin for a natural moisturizer mask, the benefits of aloe gel are uuge!

I think it's AZ's states dept of agriculture with this restriction. Since it's not an indoor house plant it needs a certificate.

We thin out our excess growth from Aloe plants at least a few times a year and give the offspring to neighbors and friends. Didn't realize the value of the plants we have been giving away. 🙂

I've had 5 foot trees shipped to me without even loose soil. Amazon could probably pull off shipping puppies at this point.

It's the packaging and shipping cost, not for the plant itself. Your neighbor should have paid that 😆
