I bought this phone from Walmart late last year for ~$100. I activated it on Total's cheapest plan and didn't replenish after the first 30 days were up. Turned it off at that point and when I turned it back on about 30 days later (a little over 60 days from activation) it was unlocked.

You only need to pay one month. After the month expires you will have already activated the phone and after 60 days the phone will unlock.

Have bought two XR, one iPhone 11 in the past year with Total Wireless and Straight Talk. Latest was a used 11 bought in January this year, unlocked after one month payment and 60-days.

There are occasionally issues with unlocking.

Message 611611 with UNLOCK and you get automated response when device will be unlocked. Device needs to be activated first for 60-day counter.

Just confirming that I got it right, we can buy 1 month plan and let sim be there for 60 days, then it will be eligible for unlocking?

After 60 days, it unlocks automatically or we have to request it to be unlocked?

TIA
I purchased a refurbished iPhone XR from Total in December 2021. It unlocked automatically after 2 months.

2nd month of service is not required. Activating the phone *starts the 60 day timer*. After the 60 days, phone is unlocked by Verizon through apple's servers (that's the mechanism Apple devices use for carrier locks). The phone unlocks in 60 days regardless of how long it stayed activated.

In fact, if you or your friend already has Total by Verizon, you can put their sim in this device, make a call, send a text or two, then put the sim back in their device. 60 days later, this phone will be unlocked....
Can you buy this and make some calls text and then turn it off and wait 60 days? Or does it need to be on?

Its not hard to keep it on for 2 months and let it unlocked right? I mean why ask this much question for which people wont even think.

$150 for phone and plan

Can I buy it, insert the Total by Verizon SIM, make some calls/texts, then remove the SIM and put in my Visible SIM and use it while it is locked? Since they are both Verizon, would that work? Would that void the unlock process?

https://www.macrumors.com/guide/i...iphone-11/

"the main drawback of buying the iPhone 11 is its age. Released in late 2019, the iPhone 11 has a much older and less powerful chip, and lacks some more modern features like 5G connectivity. Overall, it comes down to whether you value having a newer device with more of the latest specifications, or can look past this to get the benefits of a device with a larger display and Face ID ."

Since you can't get an iPhone 11 for cheap anymore, as Metro dealer stores are 99% crooks who will screw you with fraudulent add-on fees and services, and there are no corporate stores anymore, that makes this one better IF you can settle for the small size and screen, and lack of FaceID.

LOL i have SE first gen/5
amazing phone
someone stole it, didn't want it
threw it over a 2 story wall into a school yard
went back next day
phone was perfect, not a scratch in an otterbox case.
try that with any of your phones today
and I can hear the other person talking !
try that with a pixel! or a newer iphone
battery still good, some apps don't work but I don't want those apps anyways and the ones that do work have simpler easy dashboards like uber
I still have my first gen too. It was my first Walmart FM phone. Unlocked many years later. It's a backup that I use for airplay mostly. Battery life is pretty shot on it now. Still used it for my main phone last week after I sold my Pixel 7 which I absolutely hated. Might try Samsung one day if iPhone gets rid of the thumb sensor and physical SIM card slot permanently.

This has the A15 chip vs the A13 on the iPhone 11.
