what happens if you don't activate the line? I opted number porting, so I am assuming it is not activated yet. How long can I keep this before activating? I am unable to access the account using the email account that I used to purchase the phone.
Problem is that they (most likely) automatically activate the phone for you.

In my case, the phone was automatically activated less than 48 hours after I paid for it online (but I got a number from them and was not number porting). I received an e-mail to inform me of this. This was before I had received the phone yet. I had not even received notification that it had shipped (and I never received that e-mail).

I called Boost to complain, and the customer rep just kept repeating that they had no record in their system that anyone at Boost activated the phone (implying that I must have activated it from my end). It wasn't until I escalated the issue to her supervisor that I got anyone at Boost to admit that their policy is to automatically activate the phone two days after payment (in anticipation of the phone being delivered by that time) and that they have been fielding numerous complaints from customers about their phones being activated without their consent.

In your case, if the issue is just that you don't have access to your e-mail or your Boost mobile account (on their website), you can always try calling them and asking for help. My own experience suggests that customer service is not one of their core strengths, but it may work and won't cost you anything but time.

Just realized that those codes from boost was going to a different email folder, while order email was in the inbox. So I accessed my account using that and activated my SIM as a new line and turned off the auto-pay.

I am assuming I met the requirements from activation perspective as it is required to be activated within 60 days. Not sure if I port a number in, whether they will refuse a portout if the phone is not paid in full.

Do I need to put the SIM in the phone and place it on boost mobile network? Will it be an issue if I already unlocked the phone?

Thanks for the info, sorry to hear about your trouble. I was planning to get this phone for TMO usage. After reading all the comments, I'm on the fence still. Sounds like Boost will automatically activate your $40 monthly line anyway in 2 days, what's the process of deactivating the line? Online or by calling them like you did? Or how would you keep it from activating after receiving the phone?

Asusual Moto downsides will probably be stuck in Android 12 and hardly any security updates so far updated to May 2023 security update.
My understanding is that the Moto G Stylus 5G (2022) will get Android 13 and ~3 security updates thereafter. But yes, it will have a much shorter update window than flagship phones from Google, Samsung, etc. (That's probably why we can get the deal for this price today.) otoh, it's an excuse to purchase another Moto phone -- hopefully for a similar ~$50 deal -- a year or two from now. Smilie

I look at it this way. When the security updates run out, the device will still be useful to me as a electronic notebook (because of the stylus and oversized screen) that I keep by the TV for use as a remote control/mouse. I'll have to remember not to use the web browser (because of security) and possibly even block it from accessing the 'net (at the router), but that's OK. It will still have some value to me after it's retired as a smartphone. nod

OK.... a "feature" that I couldn't opt out of?! lol

What's interesting is that when I asked the customer rep about the phone activating automatically, she didn't mention "Express Activation" as a feature. In fact, she specifically denied having information on her system saying that they had activated the phone from their end.

If it was a feature they're proud of, why wouldn't they tout it (instead of hiding it away)? Why didn't their customer rep simply tell me, "It's a convenience feature so you can use the phone as soon as it's delivered" instead of implying that I must have turned it on?!

When I ordered it online, I didn't see any option to disable the Express Activation "feature"
There may have been one, but it certainly wasn't obvious.

And after the phone was activated, I didn't see any way to deactivate it online. When I called them, the supervisor who was actually helpful said they couldn't reset the status and deactivate the line (they had already assigned a phone number to the phone), but what I could do is call them again AFTER I receive the phone and request an adjustment to the 1st month's charge because the service was unavailable to me during the time before the phone was delivered. If you're planning to continue using Boost, that may be worth it.... but my guess is that the adjustment/refund will come in the form of credits to your Boost account rather than to your credit card, so if you're planning to use another mobile service with the phone, it probably would be a waste of time.

Thanks again! You're right, I'll buy an unlocked phone instead. It's $169 on Amazon but worth not have to deal with the hassle.

Sould be good enough, this phone is on par in performance with a 5 year old flagship phone like galaxy s9
