I can tell you 5 was decent. Definitely not better than 4. They stick you with a bot assisted character that can be annoying if you aren't playing with a friend. 6 was pretty bad. They tried to tell the story from 4 different perspectives with accompanying game play. It was a mess.

I've beaten every console RE game cept for the new village blar blar

re2, re3, re4 and re6 were all very good. but 5 was a bit of a letdown

5 & 6 both have demos on the eshop. But honestly, they're constantly on sale cheaper on PS4/X1/PC and they look & play better there. Unless you absolutely have to play these on the go and/or the Switch is your only console, get them for another system.

RE6 is a Michael Bay movie on steroids gone wrong. It's comical to how many unnecessary explosions happen over and over again.

5 is great fun, even with the AI pal (I don't care what anybody else says).

6 I tried repeatedly to get into for years, and just couldn't. Last year a buddy suggested I play it co-op with him solely for the luls. Alas, there were no luls to be had, just a slog through bad gameplay - and I finally gave up on it forever.
