I got lucky earlier today but it's not something I'd like to share in detail.
I bet you have a different definition of "lucky"

Hmmm, sometimes a bird in the bush is worth more than a bird in the hand.

We wanted a WiFi Fire TV for one of our spare bedrooms so bit the bullet and got this one for $180 [amazon.com]:

My guess, Amazon prefer accounts those never or not frequently used to watch prime video...
That would be me, but I didn't get this invite that I requested over a week ago

I was looking at that yesterday for $149.

Went up $30 for "prime day" over the "early prime day".

Why is everyone still buying TV? I turned on my TV once every month or so to watch some random stuff for a few minutes. There is youTube and other services, really no time for TV.

Pretty sure that is just a you thing. It would not surprise me if over 90% of slick deal users regularly use a television. I mean I watch youtube as well, but I much prefer my movies, tv shows, and games on a 60 inch or larger tv screen. But to each their own of course. Heck, I'll even watch youtube on my tv sometimes. 43 inch, while small, is a great size for a small bedroom.

I'm surprised people fall for the ad blitz.
Amazon wouldn't spend millions on marketing "prime day" just to sell things cheaper than normal. The marketing this year seems like it was amped up more than normal too.
Long ago when they started doing Prime day people made fun of it as a hyped up excuse to sell the crap sitting in their warehouses that no one was buying.
All the best "deals" were just price matches to other retailers.
I bought nothing from Amazon today, and not because I am sour about a $100 TV but because prices are higher than normal not lower.

It is really interesting to follow this thread. A new kind of doorbuster marketing here.

Amazon posts this "deal" a couple of weeks in advance to gin up interest in Prime Day as a promotion. It's a doorbuster, they have maybe 1000 of them on the promo (but I don't think they ever said how many?).

500 thumbs up, everybody gets excited and checks their emails multiple times over Prime Days, the few who got the invite feel special for "winning" the chance to buy a small TV at cost, and probably don't need it.

Others buy themselves consolation prizes.

Some Amazon consumer buying psychologist gets a bonus. Maybe a free TV.

Statistic--Amazon made $12B on Prime Day last year, $1B more than the year before.

Other than this TV nothing seems worth buying so far for Prime Day. As with the majority here no invites. Decide to go to Costco tomorrow and blow a few hundred bucks. We are low on eggs and milkSmilie
That's a lot of eggs and milk.

Well,

My bedroom TV died a few months ago. Decided I could waste $150 on something I didn't use very often.

I saw the invite so I passed over a couple OK deals on hopes of the "invite deal".

Turns out not only did I not get the invite, buy they raised the price on the deals I was looking at.

Luckily I saw the "sold out" Panasonic deal and after hitting refresh a few minutes, I happened to grab that for the $150 I had hoped to spend.

Looks like the TV in this deal might be a little better quality, but the Panasonic is a little bigger, so it's a wash.

Although if I saved the $50, I could have bought something else to go with it.

His personal life and GF are below the Titanic in my list of considerations before I make purchases.
Wait, so you don't base your personal purchases around the drama of rich people you've never met? How unreasonable!
