Bike arrived and I was not expecting it to be this nice and for $124..lol. Took it out on one of our Sierra foothills trails and it performed ok. A few things I noticed: the shock is stiff with little dampening effect, but I'm comparing to my other bikes with XCM and RS Judy. But I can't really complain at this price. Build quality and welds are excellent, shifts up/down just fine. The brakes were a let down. Even though I wiped the rotors, slight adjustment and it's almost impossible to lock up the rear wheel. It's like the calipers are not grabbing the rotor with enough strength/squeeze. I almost went over the bar with trying a power slide around a corner where one locks the rear wheel, leans into the turn and the rear comes around. Fail there as I could not lock the rear wheel. Anyone notice these weak brakes on their Taff? I'll have to take it apart and try some new pads. My old Avid BB7 and Shimano hydro's on my other bikes will STOP me. Heck even a entry level Tektro mechanical brake does a much better job. Oh and the rear kickstand appears to be bolted into the same bracket as the rear der. That kickstand is not needed for me. Positives are nice wide bar with the right rise, crank works fine, shifts fine, seat ok, and the double wall rim wheelset seems well made. Both were true and the bike was packaged very well. Now I have a good spare/backup when nephews visit. If anyone is hesitant about this $124 bike, grab it and ride it until it drops. Upgrade as needed, but the bike works fine as it for guessing 90% of us.

Congrats on picking this up for your nephew. Your review is pretty much spot on with my assessment. I upgraded the brakes within a week to Shimano MT200s. The stock mechanicals are garbage. To be honest, 180 in the front would help a lot on the stock setup or with upgrades.
I need an air fork now and a dropper later.
$124 puts it as an all time great bike buy for me. Love the frame. It's worth upgrading.
