Couple of ways to save additional $$:

1. You can save on shipping by buying directly through your local LBS, that way you don't pay for shipping. Or...
2. Buy from an online retailer like Jenson which doesn't charge sales tax in most states.

Your local shop should have the same sale price for all colors.

Would the XS rockhopper 27.5 be good for a 5ft tall 10 year old?

I'm 5'10" and I ride a medium rockhopper.

I'm between sizes, but I'd rather have my MTB a little on the smaller side.

*nevermind, I read your comment as 5 foot 10.

It's a little different style but this year I got a Sunday hi c 29 inch bike. I'm a taller and heavy dude and its just an absolute treat to ride. I used to bike a lot when I was younger but got out of it. It's just so fun to roll around I and so comfy for a tall person.

Obviously not the best trail option but an around the town bike, it's just everything I hoped it to be.

A small suggestion for big and tall homies looking for a nice bike.

I would go with the size S given that the 10-year-old is still growing. According to Specialized's website, the XS is designed for riders 4'8" - 5'1", while the S is for riders 5'0" - 5'5". So your 10-year-old would be on the smaller side for a size S right now, but your 10-year-old is not going to outgrow the size S nearly as quickly as the XS. So I would go with the S.

Your local shop should be able to get you this pricing. They'll help you choose the right bike, get the right size, allow test rides to make sure its comfortable for you, build it and provide ongoing maintenance and warranty support.

Plus, if you buy/order it through them, it'll help keep that local small business around.

The Sirrus is the hybrid. I would buy this one in a heartbeat if I didn't have it already

I think the Rockhopper is a great first real mountain bike for a kid. My daughter rides a Kona that is very similar, and really loves it.

Specialized has a sizing app called RetUl that you could click on to determine the best size. I think XS is on the borderline of being too small for a 5ft person. A size Small might be slightly uncomfortable at first, but allow some years to grow into. The app will give you a better idea though, or better yet, get properly fitted in a store.

The Roll 2.0, Roll 3.0, and Sirrus X 2.0 are all hybrid bikes.

Good suggestions about going to a local shop to get sized and support the business. I will go that route!
