Nice deal! Older model reel but still very capable. Looks like they're clearing them out. This is a good beginner setup especially for pier and surf

Really good price. Thanks OP, sending to New England where parents live so I can get some surf fishing in. Way easier and cheaper than flying with gear.

Salt or fresh. Salt is harsh on gear so if it's saltwater approved, it's good in any waters. I still wash my gear down good when I get home from any saltwater fishing, regardless of specs.

If it's your only rod, or if you need an all-around rod, then 7'.
8' is likely for the surf or longer casting on a jetty or pier.

IMHO, 7' is better for pier and the 8' is better for surf. The extra foot will help with cast distance from the surf, if that matters. For travel/transport, the 8' is two piece whereas the 7' is 1 piece, so consider that.
