My experience with text now was terrible. You could not pay me $10.99 a month to use their service. Constantly deleted account, nothing recoverable, lost contacts. Their support asked me for ridiculously invasive information when contacted. Things that had no relevance to the phone plan whatsoever. Just look at some of their reviews on the Play store

If you want minimal cost to keep a regular number alive on a phone, look at Tello. $6 for 500MB and 100 voice minutes and unlimited text. If you set a reminder to renew a day before the auto renew, it is rollover data. There are referral promos that can get you some credit to buy a better plan and then you can rollover that data to a cheaper plan a day before the auto renew. It is on the T-Mobile network. I looked all over and that was the cheapest I could find.
Tello is great. There's also a $5/mo plan from Hello Mobile, with unlimited talk and text, free international calling, and 500MB of data.

these mofos banned me and I didn't even activate my sim yet.

No way would I trust them with a paid service

My granddaughter uses the free version. Works just fine and with Gmaps I can see her location. This is what you get: (350mb monthly)

$0.00 /month

Access email, maps, and rideshare apps on-the-go, along with unlimited nationwide talk & text over 5G speeds. Renews monthly for free; purchase a paid subscription to access more data at any time.

78MB / 350MB used
Your grandaughter is one of the fortunate few who got free data included with the free plan, as an unadvertised beta test. Normally, the free plan has no data outside of use for VoIP calls/text.

Can the number be used for social media accounts or will it be flagged as VOIP number?

Supposely fees+taxes are included. Would be nice when they get something like this down to 8-9$
As long as you're fine with a lack of N. America roaming, MobileX (Verizon MVNO) may work for you: their 2GB data only plan with taxes and fees comes out to ~$8, and you can use the Google Voice app for unlimited calls and texts.

Their plans are technically hard capped, but you get a credit for data you don't use in a given month on the next month's bill.

Maybe, but the best Apple Watch deal is Visible by Verizon.

For $30/mo total (taxes included) they offer a line of unlimited phone service, including unlimited hotspot, and an Apple Watch line.

why would I give you any links?
a lot of the services are "soft cap" btw
"All data plans come with unlimited 2G data after you've used your 4G/5G balance." (From another provider)
I'm interested in knowing what this service is too.

Why would you mention something if you're not willing to at least point fellow SDers in the right direction?

Link to a better unlimited soft cap 2gb+ plan?
I actually do know of another soft-capped plan with 2GBs of high speed data, at the same cost, but it has to be paid on a yearly, rather than monthly basis, and doesn't include N. America roaming.

It does however include free international calling, and it's a bonafide mobile line so it works with all 2FA/OTP services: https://slickdeals.net/share/android_app/fp/610145

Thx. I have visible for my phone, no watch yet. Was totally unaware of the watch benefit you describe!

I've been using Hello for about 6 months, without any issue, and the unlimited voice and unlimited text is a much better deal than Tello's limited amount of minutes

Great to hear.

It's certainly a better value. They're both T-Mobile MVNOs, so coverage should be identical.
