It's a "budget" card, it's a "low tier" card, and sure enough it is spec'd as one (also note that DDR6x ram was quite a bit more expensive when this card was designed/released). Now you might argue "this should have been the 4060 or the 4050" and I won't disagree with that, but does everyone who has 3060ti, 3070, or 3070ti cards now in a camp of "you can't game on those cards, better upgrade to the $700 cards now" because they only have 8GB of ram?
Bottom line this isn't a 4k card, don't expect to play 4k games.
This is a low tier card, don't expect to use ultra quality textures.
Yes a few newer games, read shitty console ports, may have some issues at 8GB of ram, but those aren't the norm.
Edit: Damn, seems the person I quoted deleted their post.

Older RTX 3060 (non TI) has 12GB VRAM and 192-bit memory bandwidth. what a joke
Yeah but this beats that like crazy. And 6 months ago you couldn't even get a 3060 at this price. If you want ray tracing at 1080p is there a better card for around $340?

Actually, yes. My 3070 has had wonkiness with it since the day it was new with glitching textures, textures that fail to load, etc. on some games. Didn't figure out until a year and a half later that it's due to those games running out of VRAM. Turning the texture resolution down to "not fit for anything better than 720 or maybe 1080p" solves all of the problems. I've even seen youtube reviewers running Control on 8GB cards experience these problems and blame it on the game (same as me before I figured it out). Nope ... it's the VRAM. 8GB wasn't enough when the 3070 was released, and it's not enough now ... at least not if you plan to run anything higher than 1080P. I don't begrudge them the bus bandwidth or anything else, but the VRAM is a joke.

My 3070 is adequate in every way and *should* last at least another couple of years, but because of the anemic VRAM, I'm already on the fence thinking about jumping to a 6950xt (no more nVIDIA for me). I wouldn't even consider buying an 8GB card now, two and a half years later.

slickest deal is getting a 4080 for $400. Simply invest $400 in nvidia shares in oct 2022 when gamers swore the 4080 was overpriced and nvidia would pay for it and then cash them out now.
Cool let me jump in my time machine and do this.
Tesla stocks also pay for the car if you invested early on too.

Yah I had 8gb in 2016 on my 1070, can't believe we still treating 8gb as "mid/high end."
