You can refund the executive membership less the 2% cash back certificate at the end of each year if you don't spend enough so there's no real gamble other than waiting in line and having them issue a refund once a year if you don't hit the profit threshold.

Several Costcos in Dallas TX claimed that this policy had been discontinued (no more refund) since few years back.
Will be glad if they reinstated it again

I live in VA ( DC area ), no issues getting my money back. Its actually encouraged by Costco employees to follow this tip to ensure that you dont lose money, fair enough for me.

I found by not having executive, I found myself just spending less, liek WAY less. I barely go now. just every few months for like a grocery hit for new / random stuff.

I have never had a company turn me off from loving them to hating them so fast as Costco has in the last week. They are harassing everyone in line to show their cards and add their photos to them, even a little 80 year old lady. The employees at two different Costcos this week have also been very rude which is unusual for them. I suspect this coupon coming out during their time of harassment is no coincidence. I have never not used one of these when it has come out but this time I don't think I will, I just don't feel good about spending money with them anymore. I stopped spending money with Sam's awhile ago because I think their policies border on harassment, scanning every item in your cart when you leave like you are some damn criminal, looks like Costco hired some idiots from Sam's.

Ha Ha that actually happened to me for the first time a couple days ago. My local store, if you are going to the customer service or food court you can just enter through that entrance just fine, the exit part. I had to go to the customer service at another store this week so just entered the exit part like I normally do and the guy was very rude and said I had to enter the regular entrance first so I could be "counted" and then go to the customer service desk. The puzzling part is at lease in my state, they legally can't stop anyone from entering regardless of having a membership or not because they sell alcohol in addition to having the pharmacy. I believe it is even posted on the Costcos and Sam's in my state that anyone can enter because of them selling alcohol so the whole asking for a card is a violation of State law.
