You can refund the executive membership less the 2% cash back certificate at the end of each year if you don't spend enough so there's no real gamble other than waiting in line and having them issue a refund once a year if you don't hit the profit threshold.

You have to get out if scan mode and look at your "cart".

Once you get refund of the difference, can you continue being an executive member or need to drop to gold ?

And do you have to reach out to them for refund each year (if applicable) or they do it themselves ?

I think there is some logic to Costco purposefully being "behind the technology" curve with no scan-and-go, no curb side pick-up and archaic online system- they make the vast amount of sales and profits by having customer come into store to purchase. And I think jayhawknative is right, people rarely do the math of their cart, they just see the great price per quantity. It's why you hear of Costco checkout/receipt "shock".

I love scan-and-go, skipping checkout and just heading to exist, but I also like seeing the price of each item and running total.I would hate it if Sam has indeed removed item price when using S&G.

All that said, I still try to shop at Costco first. I prefer them more as a company.
