Limited-time deal for Prime Members: Amazon Basics 24-Pack Rechargeable AA NiMH High-Capacity Batteries, 2400 mAh, Recharge up to 400x Times, Pre-Charged

$25.27 with subscribe and save. These gold tops are higher capacity than the black top Amazon rechargeables. 2400 mah vs 2000 mah, but also have less recharge cycles 400 vs 1000.

So what does that mean exactly? Will they not fit in a standard TV remote, Xbox controller, etc.?

They might not, depends on the design of the cavity. I have seen them not fit in some of my 5 year olds toys.

Lately I don't see the need for these rechargeables. Curious, what others are using them for? Previously, they were used for high demand applications like camera and other electronics , but what now? Seems to be more simpler to use regular alkaline and make a point to recycle them.
Alkalines aren't recyclable. There's nothing valuable enough for recyclers. They all go in the landfill.

Rechargeables are far better.

No. These are made in Chickety China, not Japan like Eneloops.

Actually, that post for the 2000 mAH batteries is a better deal, although you get 25% (400 mA more power) with the OP batteries you lose about 60% (600) in the charge count.

For most people, the whole reason for buying NIMH batteries is to reduce waste and save money… By buying these higher capacity ones you're basically producing more waste than you would with the 2000 mA variety since you were going to be disposing of them much sooner.

Of course, if you have a device where that 400 mA is really gonna make a huge difference then I guess it's still better than buying Alkalines.

Don't forget to buy $50 worth of whichever one you want (or other eligible items) because you'll get an extra 20% off automatically… by the way, if buying the 2000maH variety, it's better to not use your reward points on this particular purchase because that purchase gives you 10% back in points on your card… But if you use reward points you don't get those… So if you shop a lot at Amazon then it's better to save your points for something else and earn more points on the 2000maH batteries (on top of the 20% you get for spending $50 or more).
