Was thinking of getting an M2 with upgraded 16 gb RAM and 512 storage. Price $879 from apple education with a $100 gift card. Effective price $779. After July 1, use Discover card inside Apple Pay, get 5% cashback (about $39)

Is this Costco configuration worth an additional $320? (Actually slightly larger difference since Costco doesn't take Apple Pay, so no 5% cashback.)

I feel ya.. it's a pretty tough decision. I lean with your deal. Depending on how hard you'll push the machine to its limits, I feel that the M2 non-pro is still amazing.. so saving ~300 bucks sounds pretty slick to me!

For context, I have an M1 Max 32g from work and an M1 Mac Mini 8g... and I'm so impressed with how good of performance the M1 Mac Mini does. Can't wait to try an M2 (in any form). My experience with M1 regular leads me to think an upgraded M2 regular will be beyond sufficient for like 95% of tasks even an intermediately heavy computer user will do.

If you have a Costco Visa + Executive, you'll get 4% cash back so only losing 1% off the Discover Apple Pay deal.

You would need to add a thunder port still to match the M2 pro version. Pro has hdmi 2.1 as well. I would have jumped on this but I needed to trade in a 2018 so I bought the pro from Apple and got a $100 gift card as well. I'd say this is a good deal and worth the extra $300 for not having to use or buy a thunderbolt hub.

You are right, regarding the Costco cashback…
The only reason I was considering getting an M2 now was because of the Apple edu discount, along with $100 gift card, plus 5% cashback. Seemed the stars were in alignment right now ….until the above Costco deal showed up!

The higher end model is worth if you're using a high refresh hdmi display like a LG late model oled like I am. Problem with the mini is once you start upgrading ssd/ram, due to Apple's exorbitant prices, you might as well get a studio. That's my current dilemma as I do want 32gb ram

It's showing a price of $1250 for me, even when logged in with my active Costco account. Is there something special I need to do to see the $1100 price?

Not true because I was ready to buy it yesterday and as of the early afternoon it was already ended. I feel like it was on sale for one day.
