Keep in mind that this is FAUX leather, which is basically plastic ("faux" means fake in French). That means it'll split and crack in a few years even if unused. That's just a result of aging. And while it's somewhat waterproof, so easier to clean, it's not puncture proof. Linen, like all woven fabrics, can recover from small punctures, e.g. from a ballpoint pen. Rips are also somewhat easier to repair on fabrics. If you don't care about appearances, you can just iron on a patch using heat-activated glue. You obviously can't iron plastic. I prefer heat glue because bonding is instant once cooled. You can also use fabric glue, which would work on plastic as well. But it's much harder to find a suitable plastic patch. And yes, you need to use fabric glue because of its flexibility. Other household glues dry hard or semi-hard, and crack if flexed, e.g. if sat on.

But to answer your question, fabrics are much more comfortable to sleep on than sticky plastic. That said, fabrics do absorb sweat do you might want to place a sheet over it. Sweat won't be a problem if you wear pajamas and the night is cool. But if you use sheets, then plastic is just as comfortable. So it comes down to durability and for my lifestyle, linen wins. If you tend to spill stuff, then plastic might be better.

FYI - Having owned one, they are worth equal to the current price. It's a JosABanks pricing scheme - ie., you get a $100 suit for $100, not a $1200 Italian suit for $100.

Some futons use a standard futon mattress. I see no evidence this uses a mattress. The cushions might actually not be removable either. If so then this is a worse deal than the futons with a replaceable mattress.

Also, many futons have frames that are all wood and/or metal. Those are the best for homes with cats and probably homes with dogs.

Some futons have replaceable mattresses and there are replacement mattresses available for about $100 I think. If the frame can withstand abuse then it would be a better choice.
