ROCm is coming to RDNA 3 cards later this year, will be interested to see productivity gains on AMD.

Finally they may have a reason to exist.

Looks to be a defect with many 7900 xt models, if not the heatpipe as well.
You're talking about reference models. Are you sure AIB partner cards have this issue too?

This is a pretty good price for the hardware (50+TFLOP fp32, 20GB, 320-bit), but AMD will need to step up their game a lot more in driver/software to catch up. The card can deliver raw performance well without resorting to marketing tactics like frame generation. The price should drop more as usual but not a lot more.

I'd still hold if there isn't an immediate need (or raw desire Smilie) to replace existing cards, because the competitive landscape for next gen cards will be different which should result in better cards for all of us . Keep in mind that this generation cards were planned and designed with crypto and pandemic demand in mind, which missed the mark now on hindsight, and was a one horse race but the gaps are closing.

Cool whine is an issue in all high power cards now. People just have to get used to it, unfortunately. The card makers just aren't making cards which mitigate this issue unless they are on the lower end of power consumption.

Upgrade from 3080 10gb worth it?
Depends on the game. I had a 3080 Strix 10G and bought the PC reference 7900XT model for $700 (also comes with Resident Evil 4). In Diablo 4 itll handle Ultra no problem.
36% increase to max FPS, 77% increase to 1% lows compared to my Strix.

I had a hard time getting rid of the 3080 10GB. It sold on eBay for $475+shipping.

I'm running Diablo 4 on an Asrock phantom 7900xt for the past couple weeks. It's running 300+ fps at 170hz on 1440p new Acer. I am also running it on my older pc that has a 1660 ti 80fps at 75Hz on 1440p older Acer monitor. Obviously the 1660ti rig has the graphics turned down a bit, but my honest impression is that they two machines don't look that much different. Kind of defeats the purpose of having a new monitor and $800 gpu. I'm not an expert but definitely know a little bit about the settings so I am very tempted just to return the 7900xt.
