Well, depends on what you need. With the xm4 you'll get better ANC (one of the better headsets for ANC apparently). XM4 are known to be rather comfortable (subjective I know, but it's what people bring up during their reviews). Sound quality is top notch with xm4. All that being said, it doesn't mean the jbl is a bad product though.

I was going to try and get these for plane rides, but noticed: "... Their ANC also struggles to reduce the rumble of bus or plane engines." I guess I'll just wait for an insane deal on some XM4's.

Oh ok. You may want to look at Bose QC 45 as well. They are supposedly very comfortable and have great ANC as well.

Edit - Don't rule out Sony XM5 and Bose NC 700. They are on the higher end but ANC is supposedly great too.
