Wondering why Chase isn't doing a better deal on Sapphire reserve. Personally, between 50% more value for travel and lounge access, I think it is better card
yes, the best value of using UR points is transfer to Airline partners for best redemption if flying premium cabins or transfer to hotel brand for hotel staying, There are a few urgent travel trip that I use portal to book because Partner airline did not have seat available. occasionally I also redeem for Apple product when they have 1.5x bonus redemption, i.e Iphone 14 promax 1TB only use 100k UR points vs retail of $1500
You need to value flying in business/FC for points to HAVE that increased value. Meaning, if you're not a big traveler, or even if you do travel but B/FC isn't worth the fee, then the whole discussion around how points are "worth" much more than 1 cpp is basically moot.

Everyone values luxury differently, but for me, the marginal benefit of a business class flight for example isn't 3x that of an economy flight. Similarly when you visit a city, you can spend 3x as much on a hotel but you're typically not going to a destination for the hotel. These are the two things that you can spend UR points on. Local experiences requires cash and if I splurge that's what I'd splurge on.

When I buy a bag of Doritos from the store because its on sale for $2 instead of $7, I haven't saved $5 because I'll never spent $7 f*cking dollars on a bag of chips. When they go on sale, I buy them. If they're not on sale, I eat something else. So if I get a coupon for a "free" bag of chips I value it at $2.
