You should be asking what YOUR use case it. If it's just watching movies, browsing the web, playing music then the Amazon is a cheaper choice for 95% of the same experience.

If you're looking to do the above PLUS message friends who also have iOS devices or play iOS games then clearly the iPad is a better choice.

Each has a place but it depends on what you need and your budget.
