I'm looking for a new laptop for school, programing/coding. I'm not looking to buy an alienware laptop as I know they are more for gaming with high specs and prices. But with this deal, is it worth it to buy this laptop? Or should I get something else?

It has excellent specs, great battery life, but weighs over 5 lbs, so a bit heavy.

Anyone know if the screen is better than the Asus Tuf A17 FA707RM? I have that one and the brightness and contrast/gamma is awful for darker games. Also not used to AMD.

How do these all compare to the HP OMEN 17-ck1020nr and ASUS TUF Gaming A17 FA707XV-MS94 ?

the thing with the omen is that the screen will have quite a bit of wobble to them when you move the laptop around.

If size & weight are no object, this is hands down the best desktop replacement laptop for the price. If portability and screen quality matter though, might I suggest Legion Slim 5 for $1150 - you get next gen Zen 4 Ryzen 7 and Ada Lovelace RTX 4060, w/ QHD 100% sRGB 165Hz 16" screen (only 300 nits though). Weighs two lbs less. Has a more minimalist, cleaner design too. https://slickdeals.net/share/iphone_app/t/16754060

Wouldn't this kill the 4060, which is slightly better than a 3060??

About to pull the trigger. But I think I will wait for the 7450HX cpu even if I have to pay more for it. This CPU is 1.5 year old.

Yes, the GPU is comparable to a RTX 3070 - 3070ti.

Alienware vs Acer are two opposite ends of the spectrum. Alienware is a premium brand, and Acer is low quality. By that, I don't just mean quality of components and build quality. The biggest differences are in cooling and thermal management.

Alienware has a very good cooling design, to control thermals, especially the 17 inch model, which has great heat dissipation.

This allows:
1. much less thermal throttling
2. higher wattage power fed into the graphics card
3. greater frame rates, and better performance

If you want a better idea of actual gaming performance, look at the wattage of the power supply, how much power the laptop supplies to the discrete graphics, and then look at actual frame rate and benchmark numbers from online reviews and YouTube videos.

This is the reason why you won't ever see 14" laptops with 4090 graphics accelerators. They can't handle the heat, can't supply enough power to the graphics, and even if they do try to squeeze it in, these laptops suffer from horrible thermal throttling.

The other comment is correct. These laptops are designed for different purposes. A 17" laptop is far less portable. Ever try taking a 17" laptop with a bag and power supply on an airplane? Setting it up on the seat? You will see how impractical it is, and where a 14" or 15" laptop make more sense. However, if you have it sitting 95% of the time on AC power as a desktop replacement, then the 17" with super high refresh is ideal for gaming, especially FPS. 17" is much more comfortable for long term use than 14 or 15".

So decide what kind of laptop you have a need for, and then find the best deal for a laptop in that segment. Don't go chasing after the best "deal" and end up with a laptop that is impractical for your daily use!
Always? No. Check NBR, plenty of models with terrible cooling.

The price looks good to me, but I am not used to the AMD CPU and GPU combo, so I order it along with the Acer Predator Helios 300:

Can anyone briefly give the pros and cons of these two products if possible, so I can decide? Much appreciated.
If you ordered both
You've already decided to have both haven't you
