Even toy factories in China can make SSD now?

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank

I'm tempted myself so I did some research.

This particular brand is not the most reliable, even among Chinese brands (actually pretty much ranked bottom). After digging into some of the discussions in chinese, issues like failed stress tests, abnormal temp, dropped disk & dead drives seem to be very common. Many purchase this brand and take it as a gamble because their drives are cheap-again even among Chinese brands.
Not recommended as system drive or for crucial use.
If you want 4tb just for games or ps5 and do not mind have to send the disk in for replacement and copy and redownload and install 4tbs of games. This is the cheapest high performance 4tb drive out there.

S770 has issues yeah, but the S880 has a better controller.

That being said, I'd pay the extra ~$50 to get a drive with DRAM. fanxiang is a company to watch though.

Oh, really? Do you know that the whole chip shortage thing is because they stock up chips during the pandemic?
there was lots of supply chain disruption in that period, capacity went way down

Well, I used GEN 4 from SK Hynix, Samsung, Crucial with mixed result. They got hot quickly under load, i.e. video processing, etc . . then slowed down. I tried this Fanxiang s880 4 TB. I'm most surprised that it worked great. Temperature never exceeded 115 degrees F. Under same load, other brand names reached 150 degrees. Maybe i just lucked out. Nevertheless, I ordered a second one.

US brand? The only US brand that makes SSD's is Western Digital/Seagate (same company). I'm not recommending the drive in OP, but nearly all SSD's are made in Asia by Asian companies. Most of the popular brands are made in Korea and China by Korean and Chinese companies.

Samsung and many of the other NAND manufacturers massively increased production near the end of the pandemic and built many more factories to try to keep up with demand. Demand plummeted soon after, and now there's a huge surplus of NAND chips. That's why prices have plummeted recently.
