It's just a rebranding of e15 gas (15% ethanol, 85% gasoline). It's apparently more environmentally friendly, probably because of the high ethanol content, which comes from corn, barley, etc, but I've read that it can affect the performance of some cars.
It's a few hour drive to the nearest Sheetz. Should I do the math to see if I'll lose money or come out ahead in gas by making the trip?
Calculating for wind resistance and snacks, of course.
Sounds like a poorly thought out promotion. Will probably make for some great people watching though, if you want to see the worst of humanity.
They actually do similar promos around holidays often but it's usually just their 88 octane (15% ethanol blend) which on a normal basis is pegged $0.10-0.30 below 87. It was $1.99 around Easter.
Any Sheets locations in California? I don't see to find any.
Furthest west they are right now are the locations they're building between Columbus and Dayton, Ohio. They just came to Columbus 2 years ago so its westward expansion will probably take awhile.

Interesting. I'm currently visiting the hometown of Sheetz (Altoona, PA) for the 4th. I'll go check out one of the 10 here.
I'm about 1 1/2 hrs west of you in Murrysville. I got gas at 530am at the sheetz in Murrysville, it was in fact $1.77. I got right in but every pump was full. It's going to be nuts today.
