ADDED NOTE: for $15 got a 256GB SSD and added it to the empty slot. Added Windows 10 and no longer have to use the 16gb OEM SSD with so little storage space. Now perform a dual boot and default to the new 256GB SSD. For a few bucks I'll add another 4gb of memory. A fun experiment getting a spare laptop for under $100 with backlit keyboard. The battery life is surprisingly quite good.

It's not locked down in any way, the BIOS has a ton of configurability. It can even boot from an SD card! I took a picture of the guts I will try to upload.
I should add that I plan to use mine as a home server. Home assistant, pihole, genmon, maybe a few game servers. The built in battery is a huge win for these use cases since power blips stop being a problem, and the entire system cost less than a UPS!
The BIOS even lets you configure the battery to stop charging at x%, I set mine to 80% to prolong battery health.

For $60 I can keep this laptop in the car as a backup for basic computing during roadtrips.

I'd recommend against installing windows though. Too much going on in the background will tax the CPU really quickly

The machine is essentially a dell business model, so it is very easy to take apart and work on. You will have no problem getting into it, that even has the screws that stay on the bottom plate and don't come out so you do not lose them. One empty and one populated ram slot on mine.
The bios lists an empty sata slot but I didn't see anything, so it's probably not actually there.

Update the bios.
Open back cover to install RAM (4GB) and M.2 2280 SSD (500GB). The SSD is too long. It doesnt fit the screw post. So I just use double side tape.
Install Windows Tiny 11.
So far so good.

The Celeron 4100 (Gemini) is TDP power limited to 6W, so it struggled a bit running windows 11. But there are well known discussions to raise the TDP to 10~15W using ThrottleStop and, more conveniently, with the RWEverything program + batch script - here's the reference: https://techtablets.com/forum/top...0/page/15/

Long story short, by creating a startup task that runs batch script with 2 lines
Rw.exe -/Min /Nologo /Stdout /Command="WRMSR 0x610 0x0 0x00DD8F00 0″
The second line sets the TDP to 15W.
The CPU pretty much runs at turbo boosted speed of 2.4Ghz all the time at mostly below 63 degrees C (Really thanks to the big heat sink of this Wyse 5470). Windows 11 is very responsive and usable, even watching 4k youtube videos.
Was also able to make use of the USB-C as a single cable solution to connect to the Dell ultrawide monitor for data, video and power delivery running 3440 x 1440 resolution. The laptop has no problem driving that screen.
