I have a Roku 3 (I believe) and its starting to show age. Need to restart it of switching between apps.

Will this be a good upgrade? Should I stick to Roku? Last I heard these sticks are rootable/ custom roms can be set up to remove bloat?

Also, do I need an Amazon account to setup?

That is fine just say not all accessories are present during trade questions. This is how I get to have extra remotes. The value goes down is all. Worth it.

That is always a YMMV situation. Sometimes you can get instant discounts. No pattern or rule except to try it.
It will tell you one way or the other before finalizing the trade. If it does not work when you proceed to checkout the way you expected (as posted a few times in this thread) you can also manage (cancel/or modify) your trade-ins if you like.
Go to your account and scroll down and under "Other Programs" on the right you can click on "Manage your trade-ins".

I spoke with customer service, and they said I can get the 20% trade in coupon stacked after the fact.

So, I started the trade in, got the $3 coupon instantly, didn't see the 20%, contacted customer service, and they left a note in my account saying they guaranteed the 20%. I'll get that extra discount once I physically return the old stick and reach back out to customer service.

That's good enough for me!!

Bought 2 at 34.99 2 months ago. Amazon did not do price match.

The performance is better while moving in the interface but the Bluetooth remote connection is shorter now. Lot of issues with Firestick Max keeping a good connection to remote when it is behind a big TV. Many people have to buy HDMI extenders to get the firestick 4k Max from behind the TV. Then fire stick 4k Max has a shorter Bluetooth range than the firestick 4k and Firestick.
