I have all three compatible remotes: the "shitty" RC-N1 controller in this kit, the "upgraded" DJI RC controller with the built-in screen, and the $1199 RC Pro controller. There are obviously pros/cons for each, but the RC-N1 with a decent smartphone or tablet is the best of the bunch IMO because it offers the best battery life, range, speed and versatility. I also think the in-hand feel/comfort and control precision due to hand position with the N1 is better than the other two remotes. I either fly the N1 with an 11" iPad Pro on a tablet mount or my S23U in the stock holder and going back to the any of the screen remotes - even the Pro - always feels like a downgrade in viewing and flying experience. Plus there's basically no third party app support for DroneDeploy so they're useless for any of photogrammetry, mapping or any other automated flight use.

You nailed it - especially with the cripple hammer comment.

This isn't correct. A drone weighing more than 249g by itself or with accessories at takeoff only means you need to pay the $5 FAA registration fee online. You pay the fee, label your drone(s) with your recreational reg number you get and then go on with your life. One registration covers all of your recreational use drones and then lets you add accessories like prop guards, landing gear extensions, gimbal protectors, strobes, payload releases, etc. You only need a Part 107 "license" (certificate) if you're using it for non-recreational purposes and if you're doing that you need to register each drone individually with a separate reg ID # regardless of weight. This 249g no-reg thing is just a marketing ploy that actually introduces huge limitations to actually enjoying the drone.

No, that's not how any of this works.

They're using Mavic 3s for the extra payload capacity and range, not Mini Pros.

Correct.

Also, PSA: the high capacity batteries push the weight above 250 g meaning you must be a licensed drone pilot to fly it, and even then that imposes extra restrictions about flying near / above people.

So, not having high capacity batteries isn't necessarily a bad thing depending on your situation.

Definitely not, this looks like a special combo for Costco that includes extra batteries and charger.

If it was that, this would be a smoking hot deal and I'd be in for a cancellation.

I can't tell--is this the Fly More bundle that also includes the shoulder bag and spare propellers?

I wish this had the RC controller but I still might go for it. This is basically the Fly More bundle plus a 128gb sd card, since the majority of that kit's price is in the batteries. A case and propellers can be purchased for $30-$50 depending on how nice of a case you want.

Edit: I ordered it. I forgot I had a $140 online Costco shop card which was my main reason for holding out for a Costco deal on the Pro. I learned from others that one upside to the non-RC controller is that I can try out an iPad and make the view larger for myself and my kid. Can't wait to set it up and start flying!

This looks like a great deal , as the mini 3 pro with the remote and battery is 759 , and this includes two extra batteries and a charger . Sure the bag would be nice but I'm sure you can find something similar on Amazon . What am I missing ?

I guess we all have to wait another year for that shitty controller to go away from the package and replaced by the one with screen. That controller is not needed in year 2023.

The fly more combo is 948 on dji site, and it also comes with the standard batteries, but includes props and bag.

I'm seeing the fly more combo with the better controller (the one with the screen) on their site for $798

edit: oh nvm, this is the mini 3 and not the mini 3 pro

You don't need to be a licensed drone pilot to fly it in the USA.

One of the most popular drones in the Russian-Ukraine war. Popular with all sides.

Counterpoint, I wish I had waited and got the controller without the screen. Side loading apps like Litchi and drone deploy; not having to mod to get good range with an external antenna; choosing a big screen when flying with other people or wanting a better preview for stills; easy screen mirroring; full resolution screen recording are some of the advantages.

The RC is nice but DJI gave it a gentle whack with the cripple hammer. Otoh, setup is faster and it is less fiddly with fewer cables. JMO.
