I was so excited for this book as I thought it was going to be a great take on Achilles' story with lots of battles, bloodshed and adventure. What I got was a romance book between Achilles and Patroclus.

I listened to the audiobook version of this, and I thought this was pretty good. That being said, more battles would have been preferable. Her other book, Circe, was pretty good as well. Given the chance, I would read or listen to another book by this author.

There is newer cover with a heart motif that is more representative of it being a romance.

I thought this was a good book, granted I wasn't expecting the romance angle there, but it wasn't as overt as say Oliver Stone's Alexander. Circe, by this author, was quite enjoyable for me as well.

If you're looking for something more battlefield focused, I highly recommend Gates of Fire by Steven Pressfield.

Her other book — Circe — is probably my favorite book. Beautiful, tight prose.

Am I the only one that researches and author or book before I pick it up. This book was incredibly good. I'd read Circe so I know I wasn't getting a battle heavy book. Even when Circe talks about her time with Odysseus the more and the more violent parts of her history it gets toned down. Miller is a writer that is more about the characters introspection. I really recommend this book. I was surprised I liked it anywhere near as much as Circe.

Should come with a gay/homosexual warning in the original post so the majority, or other 95+% of the population that aren't interested in that know not to go any further.

Somehow that little fact matters to most of us, regardless of what is forcibly shoved down everyone's throats...
