Here is the nit and gritty.
It is MASSIVE, it is HEAVY,
The tilt feature is kinda of a gimmick.
The Monitor is LED NOT OLED, it does have local dimming zones but a curser on a back background will be darker than when the cursor is near something bright.
Playing games on this monster is amazing, working with spreadsheets not so much. Being so massive and tall, you end up looking around a lot.
Be sure to check your local best buy for a possible open box deal. I got mine cheaper than this for one that was never even taken out of the box.
Citing the text clarity to me reinforces that you're probably too close to the screen.
The text clarity definitely isn't objectively great ( it isn't for most consumer monitors ), though there's something you have to do in the settings to make sure the chroma something something ( can't remember the terminology, sorry ) is correct to help w/ the text clarity if I recall. I think I also use the natural color mode to help too, but I agree it's not amazing.
If you're using anything higher than 100% scaling, that should be heavily ameliorated, and if you're not, and the crispness of the text is affecting your comfort while reading or productivity in general somehow, again, I think you're too close to the screen. In some ways the major benefit of this screen for productivity *IS* the lack of text clarity, in the sense that you are using 4k at 100% scaling w/ the perfect curve. You're seeing the equivalent of 4 x 1080p monitors all in a single, bevel-less interface, and it dramatically affects the way you can use a computer and expands your mental computing model in a way that I'd honestly pay $5,000 for this thing at this point and cannot go back. If text clarity is your primary concern, I think you're just as good w/ any 2023 MacBook ( or Pro ) screen as w/ any high-end monitor available. The MacBook Pro screen at least has 120Hz, whereas their pro displays don't.
Can you confirm the distance hypothesis? Separately, do you have decent vision or wear glasses ( not being rude, being sincere because I work all day every day on this thing and the text definitely isn't perfect but it's way m ore than comfortably usable. I also have a 15" MacBook Air and I use that at night when I'm sick of sitting at a desk, and obviously the text is crispier and I love it, but it doesn't improve PRODUCTIVITY at all, which is the aspect we're exploring ).
I just measured my desk. I's 28 inches deep, and I have the butt of the Ark stand hanging off of it slightly. I also tend to lounge back in my chair half the time, and then sit up straight half the time. Extending a tape measure from my eyeball to the center of the screen at eye level puts me at about 32-34 inches away, I'm curious whether, if you match that distance, the clarity will still bother you or you'll perceive it as much more normal.
I have also worked for months on a 43" Dell 4k monitor ( p4317q ), and I used that at 100% scaling too. Going between the two, there is a dramatic pixel density difference obviously, 55" vs 43" w/ the same resolution, but I'd say the text is slightly *more* comfortable to read on the Ark, and put that down to the curve and the viewing distance I use. Remember that the clarity of text will always be directly affected by your eyeball's distance from the screen, IMO that's the first course of action if it seems bad.
