It we have another GPU shortage, it won't be because of crypto. I think most people finally learned not to waste their money on gambling on crypto.
It'll be a war/blockade in Taiwan… but could also be a natural disaster like earthquake or volcanic eruption

I was strongly considering swapping back to AMD this generation if we didn't see any 4080 drop below $1,000 - but I've become so dependent on NVIDIA Broadcast/RTX Voice I would have done so reluctantly.

I'll bite on this deal and hang on to it unopened through Prime Day just in case...
Watch out! Newegg will charge you S&H fee not free return.

People on SD complain about Apple stuff (e.g. Macbooks) being overpriced, but then you have high-end GPUs from nVidia and AMD being priced crazy high.
TBF, Nvidia's prices are so unacceptable almost nobody is buying the 40 series, especially the 4080. Unlike Apple, where artificially inflated prices are REWARDED and high demand by the consumer.

Nvidia = Overpriced and NOT selling
Apple = Overpriced and selling

Is anyone able to find a MSI Ventus 4080 Water block? I am not able to find one on the internet so buyer beware in case you are planning to get into water cooling eventually a few months down the line.

BTW, it is $300 under the MSRP $1299.
msi ventus is a slightly modified nvidia reference design. the main difference is that the power connector was moved down AND back about 10mm. the only thing you can do is find a reference 4080 waterblock and modify it with a Dremel or something to make room for the power connector

here is one thing that a lot of people don't understand about nvidia; the nvidia founder's card IS NOT a reference PCB. the founder's card is a custom board, like the msi suprim and asus strix. so do not go and buy a founder's block. you need a REFERENCE block

if you are hell bent on watercooling, i'd advise getting rid of your card and get something else.

for future reference, low end cards like the msi "ventus", gigashit "gaming" and "windforce", asus "dual" do not get waterblocks made for them. sometimes those cards are laid out similarly enough that blocks for other models will fit them, but that's not always the case. but no one will waste time making blocks specifically for these

Glad I took advantage of the XFX 6950XT when that went on sale for $567 a couple of weeks ago 😁

GPU prices are following SSD prices. Unless you NEED one now, there is no FOMO!

If GPU were sold/packaged as CPUs are, many would realize just how small they really are, even if you know 98% of mass is all fans and heatsinks. The actual tech is no bigger than a CPU. Impressive in and of itself but as a shopper, one would realize just how much they are charging.
I don't know what you are trying to say. If customers are basing what they should pay for an item where smaller is better then they might want to adjust their thinking. Also the cooling and heat dissipation is 100% part of "technology". GPU tech is more expensive than CPUs as well.

I just bought the Samsung 980 2 TB m2 which is impressively small. I'll gladly pay more for that over a clunky old SATA.

Best deal I've seen on the 4080. With rasterization about on par with the 7900xtx, the choice you have to make is do you want better software enhancements like DLSS and RT with nvidia, or do you want 8gb more VRAM for a little less money. I was able to snatch up a 7900xtx PowerColor Hellhound card for $830 new on Amazon when it went briefly on sale a couple weeks ago now, so for me it was a no brainer. I heavily 4k mod Skyrim and often see 18gb+ of VRAM usage, so I'm glad I went with the 7900xtx over the 4080.
How about drivers that work. ATI/AMD's after all these years still are trash.

Technically started indirectly already, Nvidia won't be able to import these types of chips to China due to the chip/AI race. Business that buys a lot of GPU for AI/ML won't use these consumer grade GPUs either and definitely not 4080 with only 16GB VRAM. To make up for the shrinking pie and pressure from AMD, it makes sense to make some adjustment including price. It will be interesting to see where things go in second half of the year.

Conversely, as an existing owner of a 7900 XTX, I bought both a second one and a 4080 for my second rig. The 4080 was a open box and the 7900 XTX was the same Hellhound deal as yours so price difference was like 20 dollars.

Ended up returning the 7900 XTX for one reason most people dont consider... Resale value. I change my GPUs every 1-2 years so I figured I would get more for my 4080 in a years time.
I don't think the resale value is going to hold up nearly as well for the 40 series, since they're so overpriced.
