I also just got the 7900 xtx hellhound at $830 last week. I really did want a 4080 for better vr performance though.

I don't know what you are trying to say. If customers are basing what they should pay for an item where smaller is better then they might want to adjust their thinking. Also the cooling and heat dissipation is 100% part of "technology". GPU tech is more expensive than CPUs as well.

I just bought the Samsung 980 2 TB m2 which is impressively small. I'll gladly pay more for that over a clunky old SATA.
Besides that GPU prices are going lower just as SSD have, month on month, just a hunch that many people don't realize the GPU is the same size as a CPU.

Of course, it doesn't mean big is better in tech, but methinks that many think "wow, GPU are big".

Great price.

Currently on a 4070ti. I'm planning to stay at 2k gaming for a bit longer so this was the cheaper and better option.

4080 is for 4k gaming. If you're not planning on 4k gaming in the next 2 years then I would suggest a 4070/ti version and save a few bucks.

Realistically, what kind of bottleneck is my pci-e 3.0 riser cable with a card like this? I have a meshlicious with the older 3.0 cable

It'll be a war/blockade in Taiwan… but could also be a natural disaster like earthquake or volcanic eruption
The Taiwan war is already priced in.

I have bought so many gpus and then decided to sell them without opening. lol. At least they got profits on a lot of them, but of course now they don't and I can just never decide what to keep. Right now I have a 4070 ti trio, so I guess I should just open it and be satisfied. But of course with all this time I am waiting if I don't build soon I wills ee the 4080 cheaper than what I paid for 4070 ti and get mad.

ORIGINALLY I was going to just use a 2070. lol. SO at least 4070 ti is a big leap from that.

I may do some 4k gaming, but people always claimed that turning a few settings down that aren't noticeable would still let a 3080 or 4070 ti be good enough for it. I am only a casual gamer, so hopefully 4070 ti will be good enough for some games.

Crazy world we live in where a card that should be priced at $699 is priced at $1200 so $999 is a steal lol

price is determined by supply and demand. theres simply higher demand to supply ratio w/ gpu vs cpu.

Conversely, as an existing owner of a 7900 XTX, I bought both a second one and a 4080 for my second rig. The 4080 was a open box and the 7900 XTX was the same Hellhound deal as yours so price difference was like 20 dollars.

Ended up returning the 7900 XTX for one reason most people dont consider... Resale value. I change my GPUs every 1-2 years so I figured I would get more for my 4080 in a years time.
The even number Nvidia cards are usually garbage and the odd number cards are great....... High probability that a 5060 will beat or match this card, so good luck with that.

Should? I wonder if you are a CEO of a company, will you let the consumer name their own price. Why not free while you are at it? Ridiculous people is ridiculous.

Nvidia has already been caught price fixing by reducing sell in (artificial shortages) to artificially elevate prices. They were caught attempting to confuse customers with multiple 4080 variants and then cancelled the 12GB variant as a result. The generational performance per dollar gains are comically bad. Demand is soft, the used market is still highly saturated from the mining boom, and new inventory is high. These higher prices are anomalous as the two big players believe they can wait it out. It isn't working well so far.

Don't buy, wait it out. Let Nvidia eat their cards and their manipulative BS.
