Separate dedicated hardware to listen for the keyword. Same on Google and Siri. Alexa allows you to choose a different keyword such as Echo while the others don't. This is helpful for when playing tutorials that all say the default keyword.

Allows low power standby listening especially for mobile but still important for plugged in devices.
Good price but the speakers are trash for music. I can only describe them as gutless.
Too many version of echos. So confused

Most reviews say the Pop is basically a budget version of the Dot (and generally sounds worse). That said it's an excellent price at $18 and I didn't think it would hit this price so quick.

edit: IMO spend the extra $5 and get the Dot

As a bonus, it's a decent mini extender if you have Eero wifi.

" Alexa doesn't begin listening until your device hears you say "Alexa" and the light bar turns blue." LOL so how does it "hear" me say Alexa if it isn't listening? It must be psychic!

You know you're doing something wrong when a patron of an extreme consumer forum is confused by your product lines. They just poop a new thing out each quarter to see what sticks. I don't think anyone uses the echo smart ring, echo sunglasses, echo robot or amazon security drone. They are obviously creating these things so you have more intuitive ways to buy from them, but they never get it right. They should just focus on making some addictive wacky casino shopping experience like Temu and stop trying to create products destine for the landfill

As an Eero Wi-Fi extender: someone noted on the Amazon product page "100Mbps maximum bandwidth, 10 devices maximum, only devices on the 5 GHz band"

This is how devices like my Lenovo clock that constantly loses wifi connectivity can still respond when they're disconnected, to tell you they're disconnected. I don't know why they can't just reboot or reconnect if they know they're disconnected, but whatever. (My dumbass clock tells me to open the Home app because it is assumed that the problem is with the wifi, not with the POS device itself) Any other speech recognition requires them to be online but they can still recognize the wake word because, as you say, it's always listening but just for that.
