I still buy quite a few regular alkalines. For kids toys, especially outside ones, rechargeable isn't the answer. I have good luck with AC Delco -- made by Powermax, I believe. I get Duracell or Enegizer here and there when on sale, but honestly they don't seem to keep the bubble machines going any longer. Rayovac used to be ok but they changed something a few years ago and seem short lived and leaky since.

I have not had leaks in the Duracells I got last fall from Costco but definitely have seen a lot of chatter about that.

Oh, and anecdotally, I have had leaks from every battery I've ever bought from Woot (owned by Amazon), so I don't buy from there anymore.

Yes. ALL. THE. TIME.

No other battery that I've used has caused a much damage to my things as Duracell has. I avoid them at every opportunity. Surprised that everyone else hasn't done the same.

Why not just buy the Amazon AA batteries- 48 count for $15.57 (.31 each)?

Yes and no. I use both akaline and rechargeables. Important reason why, the rechargeable batteries can only max to 1.2V which doesn't work well with some electronics, especially connected in series for larger power hungry electronics.

Duracell leaks on me most of the time, usually after battery has died and I don't remove it. Energized hasn't leaked on me though, even if I forget about the device and batteries. For this reason, usually go with energizers.

Can't trust Duracells anymore too leaky. Back in the day when they were made here and assembled here they never leaked.
