Available:About this book:- Humanity has colonized the solar system—Mars, the Moon, the Asteroid Belt and beyond—but the stars are still out of our reach.
- Jim Holden is XO of an ice miner making runs from the rings of Saturn to the mining stations of the Belt. When he and his crew stumble upon a derelict ship, the Scopuli, they find themselves in possession of a secret they never wanted. A secret that someone is willing to kill for—and kill on a scale unfathomable to Jim and his crew. War is brewing in the system unless he can find out who left the ship and why.
- Detective Miller is looking for a girl. One girl in a system of billions, but her parents have money and money talks. When the trail leads him to the Scopuli and rebel sympathizer Holden, he realizes that this girl may be the key to everything.
- Holden and Miller must thread the needle between the Earth government, the Outer Planet revolutionaries, and secretive corporations—and the odds are against them. But out in the Belt, the rules are different, and one small ship can change the fate of the universe.

None of this is a complaint. I loved the "TV" series and seeing the universe the author created (that felt like it could be the near future a lot of the time). I guess I'm just disappointed that I didn't start with the books. Then I could have loved the stories and worldbuilding in the books and been dazzled by the TV show bringing the books to life.

FWIW there ARE more background (and story) differences in the later books...as the show went on it began pruning characters out from the books (or combining several into one for expediency and cost)... plus there's short stories and novellas in between the books that fill more stuff in.
And most importantly- there's 3 entire books (and several novellas) set beyond the finale of the TV series.

I started it a few times but never made it past 2 or 3. Finally someone said I had to watch a few more and I was hooked!
IIRC (from the internet, not from reading), the next book was '50 years later' or something like that.
EDIT: Looking around via Google, I can find nothing to confirm nor deny the above premise.
Like another comment, the series does condense the story and pacing and wrapped up the show fairly quickly. It easily could have had 2-3 more seasons based on all the content left out.
I've not read them all; but I followed along and the comments from others would fill in additional details. Lots of, wish they would haves about missing stuff from certain scenes in each episode or season.

Most definitely not.
The last 3 books (not 1) are a couple decades later, but not 50 years, and largely follow the same main characters (and many of the same secondary ones)
The majority of the whole series was done with Syfy-- 36 episodes over 3 seasons....After 3 seasons Syfy cancelled it and Amazon revived it for 26 more episodes over 3 overall shorter seasons.
