Taxes are depending on states and it's on full price.
In CA, taxes is about $22, plus $35 activation fee, and the total is about $57 and you have to stay with t-mobile for 2 years and the phone cannot be unlocked unless you pay off the full price in advance and wait at least 40 days on t-mobile. It is not much a deal because you can get better device from other carriers for less money (like metro by T-Mobile) and no need to stuck with the carriers for 2 years.

Don't forget that you can dig an old flip phone out of a drawer for deals like this. No need to hand over a functional smartphone.

The waiving of $35 activation fee is YMMV, and may not be reproducible by majority of users, not even to mention the time to ask t-mobile agents NICELY for it.
Even if it's waived you still have to pay taxes on the $35 activation fee because t-mobile agents usually waive the fee by charging you $35+taxes on $35 first and then crediting you $35 but not taxes back (which may sound ridiculous). Maybe it's a deal for some people but in my opinion not a deal for many if not most users.

Things to note:
-It's bill credits
-Pretty much any old junk phone will work.
- The financed portion does count towards your accounts credit limit, so be careful if you plan on financing 4 iphones in the fall and other phones in the next two years (yes you can always pay off early, but if you do that as I often as I did, your bill credits will offsetyour bill all the way to negative territory. Your negative balance will accumulate but no way to receive that money back). Imo the Nord is not worth the finance credit.
- There is a $35 activation fee and taxes. If you have Costco membership, do it at the TMobile kiosk inside (or call the Costco specific TMobile customer service line to do the upgrade). The activation is waived at Costco, and you can receive a device upgrade $75 Costco shop card as a rebate

Honestly I would rather buy the N30 from Metro for $90 + tax + $40 activation then wait 6 months instead. For California it'll cost $140 plus 6 months vs $248 + $24 tax + $35 activation then wait 24 months for $248 back, but also locking yourself out of any potential better phone deals. Still using my "free" iPhone 12 from Mother's Day promo 2 years ago, just an example but free iPhone is much sweeter than a free N300 IMO

This deal is great tho if your grandma's phone is about to explode with a swollen battery and you need something simple for her ASAP

so you are saying at costco, i'd get ~$60 (costco card) after factoring in the tax (~$15)? i'll be going to costco for this!
