You have a link to whatever you're referencing?

I run Kasa single, dimmers, three way dimmers, and multiple versions of their smart plugs and haven't had an issue yet.

So that article references one of the plug models but doesn't state which. It also states that it was a software vulnerability that was patched by the vendor. Since smart plugs need to be online to be, well smart, they'd have automatically received the update.

As opposed to a hardware flaw like reverse polarity, faulty grounds (where needed), or components that degrade quickly.

I've used this smart switch in my house for 5 years and there's no issue with catching fire and still works fine.

Are these cheap switches still prone to catching fire or did they fix the problem and upgrade the hardware

I have several of the dimmable switches and they work really well. Installed them about two years ago and really like them. I use the. 90% of the time with my echo.

You answered your own question, did you not read the article you linked? TP link plugs were tested and found to not be a fire risk. They did have a security risk due to low encryption, but a patch was being rolled out for that according to the same article.

Love these switches and have them all over the house BUT it's impossible to get them flush with the wall so there's a gap between every single wall plate and the wall.
