I have 4 of these refurb units and will add another one or two. They all came looking brand new. There are also multiple quality inexpensive generic filter options avail on Amzn, $29 buys 3 true HEPA replacement filters.

Wi-Fi I feel is key because when there's a power failure, you can remotely turn them all back on. With multiple units, that saves time.

One of the ways I know these work well, besides looking at the filters and the cleaner smelling air, is they have an indicator that turns either green, yellow, or red, depending on the quality of air around them. It works incredibly well as an early warning system when our dog has gas If it's red, time to exit the room until the Winix cleans up the air...

lolol, Yea the app is pretty lame.laugh out loud

Costco New with extra filter for $100 is the deal to beat, even at $70 refurb, it's a bit steep.

I have one too and the indicator light does seem to work. When we're frying stuff indoors, the light turns orange/red. When we turned on the HVAC for the first time after maintenance, it also changed colors. So it does seem to work. It's also very quiet which I like.

I just placed an order for the higher end model that's on sale at Amazon, but might cancel and order this instead since I have this very model already.

I've had two of these units for over a year now and they do their job well. My biggest issue was they couldn't be controlled by Google Home, but sometime this year that changed. So no issues at all now, the interface still needs a little tweaking, (missing ability to set fan speed to medium) but everything else seems to function properly.

If by higher end you mean the 5500-2, there's really not a big difference between the two. The CADR ratings are identical, which tells me the fan/motor are probably the same. The main advantage to the 5500-2 is the carbon filter is made of pellets (versus a foam material), so it may be a bit better with odors and VOCs. But from what I've read, you really need something more substantial (like the IQAir HealthPro) if those are a big concern for you.

Yep. I've got the 5300-2 and the squirrel cage blower & motor on it is very quiet/efficient. Lowest 3 settings run between 2-10W, with the absolute highest topping out around 50W - and it really moves a TON of air at that speed.

'smart' wifi connectivity on an air filter seems completely unnecessary lol

Thanks, in for 2.

Was debating between this and the 5500-2, but they seem nearly identical in terms of performance. The carbon filter is worthless in each for VOC. Can get 2 of these for just a bit more than the 5500-2. Fingers crossed the refurb lasts.

Personally, I think the refurb deal is just fine, $30 gets a lot of replacement filters via Amazon and as others have stated, these look brand new.

For those who doubt they work, try farting in front of them... you'll see it turn up the speed. And of course, when you change the filters, you'll see dust, etc.

I personally have one in every room, and is a life saver due to my allergies & dog.

Well the older ones came with a remote, this doesn't, so there's no way to control it aside from the buttons on the unit, and some features are inaccessible without the app.
