Do the HDMI ports in these Onkyo still crap out after a year or have they fixed that issue?

Denon for sure in my book. More reliable, cheaper, still has Dirac, and has no restrictions as a pre/pro.

I got one of these locally for this price. Really liking it. So far so good. My one wish is that it had Tidal Connect. But apparently very few receivers do.

High Five Congrats on FP!

And I still see it in your original post Smilie When I saw that, I had to go see it for myself on Amazon

And don't worry it's dishwasher safe (according to Amazon) but I wouldn't recommend washing.

Depends on brand preference and priority of features.
If you don't have a brand preference and power and Dirac are at the top in features.
This might be the better choice.

If you use an external amp, the power advantage may not be a big difference/benefit.
As far as Dirac, Dirac Live RC is included in the price of this.
The 3800 you will have to purchase Dirac ($349) & a calibrated mic($100-$125).

On the other hand, in the long run the 3800 will get the option for the other half of Dirac…. DLBC some time next year, unlike this AVR.

Here is a comparison that should help.
