Take that $63 and put it in a 1 year t-bill or CD yielding over 5% and you'll turn that into just over $66. No point in locking up $63 today on stamps that you will take years (or decades) to use. Unless you are going to use 100 stamps in the near future, this may end up costing you more in the long run, not to mention the chance of losing/misplacing these stamps.

Take that $63 and put it in a 1 year t-bill or CD yielding over 5% and you'll turn that into just over $66. No point in locking up $63 today on stamps that you will take years (or decades) to use. Unless you are going to use 100 stamps in the near future, this may end up costing you more in the long run, not to mention the chance of losing/misplacing these stamps.

only hoarders try to optimize for this. a truly slick consumer would just buy as you go, unless you're sending hundreds of letters a year.

Thanks. I have learned the hard way by hoarding way too much stuff just because of the price, but by the time I end up using the stuff, if ever, I would have come out ahead by just investing that money.
