When you buy a entry door knob, it comes with this. Why would one buy this separately?

I've dealt with a couple of hundred door locks in the past 15 yrs and have yet to see one wear out.
In most cases the new latch gets thrown away because the installed one works just fine and saves about 30 seconds.

The point is this in an item you buy when you need it, if any, you don't wait for a "slick deal"

I've replaced three of these on exterior latching doors.
