Just used the 18 inch version of this and let me tell you, it drills effortlessly. Did require a fair amount of pecking though.

These are usually require decent torque drill since they're self feeders and can't be controlled as easy as fluted or spade ones (the ones that can be pulled out back during drilling), once this sucker digs into the wood it will just plow through unless drill stalls because power is insufficient.
Goes through lumber fast though but leaves edges somewhat rough especially on exit which is fine for rough plumbing/electrical.

These are great unless you hit a nail. Then it completely dulls the bit out.

Not true. Diablo bits rip right through nails as well as the Bosch bits.

Just used the 16" to set up ethernet routing from my basement into my attic to distribute through the house and handled it no problem on a basic Ryobi drill. Will never buy a spade bit again given another option. While I picked up some other similar bits on discount I ended up buying and using the Irwin because other brands apparently don't always size these to normal standards like 1/4" and 7/16" so you can't get an extension if needed.
