I'd compare app lists but personally, I like the roku UI better

Based on a quick look through the specs comparing them Dolby atmos, better Wi-Fi and rechargeable hands free remote. Those features are all on the Ultra so it really just depends on your usage.

roku remote app can turn your TV on/off and control volume. Private listening doesn't require any pairing of headphones with the stick as long as the headphones are already paired with your phone. those are 2 big ones for me. Roku OS is also much easier to use from my personal experience

Aren't most hotel TVs nowadays locked down to the point that you cannot use the TV remote to switch the input to the HDMI port that you have your Roku connected to?
No, the exact opposite. More TVs than not have input switching. And the ones that don't are hard wired to a specific port, so you can unplug the tv box and plug in the Roku to the same hdmi input. I travel a ton and very rarely get tvs that don't allow me to use this

Thanks for the quick response and helpful information. I do not travel much and have never brought one of my Roku devices to a hotel to try this out

Anyone have experience with these and connecting to hotel WiFi?
Currently using one right now at a hotel. When connected to a hotel wifi, if it detects a sign in portal, It will instruct you to connect your phone to the Roku's wifi and display the sign in page through your phone browser. Enter what you need to get wifi and done. Been using it on travel for half a year, its great.

I posted this on the other Roku thread but Fire TV 4K Max is a better device then this and it's -$8 to this device. Why are people buying this?

how is it better? the amazon remote app sucks, private listening is not as well done as on the roku and the OS is not as intuitive. I think the hardware in the stick may be better (wifi 6 etc) also games and side loading apps but realistically there are pros and cons depending on your use case.

How often does Roku refesh their hardware? I'm waiting for a new Ultra to be released.

Fire TV Max has 2GBs of ram, versus 1 gb for this. Fire TV Max has 8GBs of storage, versus 4 gb for this. Roku's device is 5 years old versus the Fire Max at <2 years old. Fire TV Max has Wi-Fi 6, this does not. Also, as mentioned previously, Fire TV Max is $8 less right now for Prime members. If you like the Roku OS better, fair enough, that's your opinion but performance wise and price wise, it's not even close. Also Fire Max has 181K reviews and 4.7 stars versus Roku who also has 4.7 stars too but just 59K reviews. To each their own I guess but this is a bad purchase for most people.

The spec comparison would normally convince me to pick the Fire over Roku; if it was for my use. This will be for my elderly mother's kitchen and bedroom TV. She is barely able to navigate the Roku OS for her living room TV so I'm only going to confuse her more by introducing to her a new OS. She also struggles a bit with using her Apple phone. I use Android. lol

Pulling the trigger on the Roku.

Thanks for your input and thanks OP.

I have this Roku stick and you can watch every stream in Dolby Vision or in HDR10 if you want. I do with my Sony A80j. I don't have Atmos speakers so I cant say if that works but Dolby digital plus works great.
