These are about to get much cheaper coming sept as Apple is planning on removing lightning ports on all iPhone devices.

Apple has not gone Lightning > USB-C > Lightning and now back to USB-C. The iPhone went 30-pin > Lightning. The iPad has gone Lightning > USB-C. And that's it for the iOS/iPadOS devices. Their Mac devices are another story. They've been slowly moving the iOS/iPadOS devices over to USB-C.

It IS frustrating they didn't switch to everything being USB-C sooner, but at least it's happening.

Nothing is confirmed at the moment by Apple for move to USB C other than required by law in EU. Chances are high that iPhone 15 will most likely be USB C globally, but shall know in couple of months.

I'm curious why people like the 90 degree cables. They never fit with any case I've ever used (even more so with USB-C plugs on Android)

Ordered mine. Lightning will still be around for a long time. My work phone is still a 11. We have several people on 8. As long as duo/2fa runs on it, don't need to upgrade everyone. They don't need a $1000 iPhone 15 for it.

If anything, lightning cables will probably get more expensive as they will be harder to find for people that still need them for current model iPhones.
