I bought 2 of these with the AC adapters in 2021 from Amazon and about to buy a third now.
Not sure why the bad reviews but the ones I got in 2021 have been great and customer service was also pretty quick at telling me that the warranty had expired when I thought I was having an issue.
When I thought the lid stopped working, customer service told me to unplug it and plug it in again, and that fixed it.

I've had a few of these. It's not a matter if the lid would stop working, it's a matter of when. It's a great concept but regardless of who makes these things, they stop working along the way. Is $50 worth 2 years of this? Maybe....
I've always used the AC adapter but I just bought the dual compartment and it looks like it takes 4 D batteries.
As for whether it's worth it- I bought it for $70+ in 2021, and even my kitchen faucet is sensored and touchless, so it's worth it for me. 😅
It's really nice to have the trash can automatically open and close. Especially when you have something that's gross and dripping like a raw meat package. I hate stepping on trash cans with banging lids and I really don't want to open one with my hands. Open trash cans or the ones with the twirling lids are worse.

The lids are atrocious… breaks in less than 6 months. Sometimes the sensor will not cooperate and people will try to shut the lid breaking the damn thing. Becomes a normal garbage can after all. The odor thing is BS.
Got these from Costco, all of them break within a year - especially with kids
This is true! My toddlers broke my last one because they didn't "get" that it closes by itself even when I repeatedly try to teach them; so they pull it down manual. But they are so much better than us touching nasty trash cans…
