The speed isn't there to use this as your boot drive but as storage it could be ok although it's a bit rich for just storage
What? What speed requirements do you have for a boot drive?

Isn't the 8TB QVO Samsung like 317 or so? It is in SATA format though.

Can we find info on how hot they run? I would like to put these in an enclosure.

Not bad for fast storage. There are many variations of storage. For my main computer, I cannot stand slow access time with traditional HDD.

I was interested in this, but my application only accepts 1 sided nvme. I tried to figure out if this was 2 sided or not without much luck. I found a YouTube video showing the 1tb version having chips on both sides so I doubt the 4tb is single sided. Any insight would be welcome.

It gets hot (from 500gb version): https://www.techpowerup.com/revie...ssd/7.html

Datasheet says 2.5A at 3.3v or 8.25W of power: https://www.teamgroupinc.com/en/c...dex_id=148

Curious as to why this wouldn't be good enough for a boot drive compared to just regular sata ssd?

It would be fine as a boot drive. Compared to a sata ssd it will be much faster, I think most people are just comparing it to gen4 nvme drives with much higher speeds.

Very vague statement from the original post.

Thanks for the clarification.

Even Gen 4 gains are kind of questionable in an everyday user application. We're not shaving double-digit seconds off boot times or load times.

I'd recommend this drive for anyone looking for game/media storage and has an nvme slot available.
