Does this have the same kind of synchrony as the Asus Advantage edition that had the 5900/6800 and outperformed a 3070 with not shitty memory installed ? I'm just wondering if this being a 6900/6850 would be as much of a power house. Or rather more.

how does this compare to the m15 r7 w/ the i7 and 3070ti deal? mine is still in the "being built phase". I know the screen was smaller but better on the m15 r7 but 16gb less ram and 4g less vram on the gpu.

That's kind of what I'm wondering, if this synergy is as potent as the asus advantage edition with the ryzen 9/6800m then this very well may outperform a i7/3070ti. But if it's not then I'd guess probably about equal in performance. I'm trying to find better reviews now. The screen on this is very mediocre fyi. Not a big deal if you are going to go to a nice monitor instead.

I need something more portable, so I think the m15 r7 will be a better choice for me. however, seems lots of people say it runs hot, which has me concerned. if I need to lug around a laptop cooling pad, then it kinda defeats the purpose of the smaller form factor.

I'm returning mine. The screen is not great and skinny looking. A lot of needles bezel. The speakers are great though, thermals are fine, but it's so flipping loud.

I also had bought the build your own Lenovo AMD 7745hx with the 4070 and the 16 inch 500 nits display. It's pretty, but the speakers are better on the Alienware.. that's the only advantage it had over the Lenovo. That and being $400 cheaper. lol

I'm not familiar with the price or specs of the m15 you are referencing. Honestly if you are going to game on any of these laptops, you need a cooling pad. I wouldn't recommend gaming without. At least nothing remotely intensive. There are some relatively portable cooling mats even with fan options. I'd recommend a fan on the mat over the passive cooling kind. If the m15 is similar in power and price, you should do that. But to me, this is blowing my mind that this price is so low. Maybe it doesn't have the same synergy as the Advantage edition model(s).

Not sure which laptop you are talking about. The bezels aren't that bad however the speakers on all the Alienware line are crap. No bass whatsoever. They are Loud but sound real bad. There are many laptops with much better sound.

The Lenovo Legion 5 Pro. Those speakers are side firing, but yes don't distort like the Alienware. The Alienware doesn't have much bass, but definitely louder and better than the Lenovo.

can you recommend a specific cooling matt?

the m15 r7 I have on order is the following:

i7-1200h
3070ti
16Gb DDR5
1tb SSD
QHD screen

price was very similar to this. within $100 maybe.

I tested them next to each other. The Alienware m15 r7 has top facing speakers above the keyboard. They didn't sound that bad.. but yeah not MacBook quality. Lol

Ok so all things considered you just need to decide on what your needs are for travel etc. In my opinion the 17 inch chasis usually means better cooling because, more space. But either way I think both of these will need help. For ease of portability I'd go with one of the bigger single fan Thermaltakes, or KLIM if you want cheap, has some pretty small/think variants. Targus and cooler master too have some decent.

https://www.amazon.com/Targus-Coo...19&sr=8-13

https://www.amazon.com/Thermaltak...th=1&psc=1

The "portable" option from TT is unavailable on amazon. But this one isn't bad for space and quality:

Sorry if any of those are repeats, doing from phone. Honestly any decent reviewed low profile 15 inch pad with fan will be fine. They can break down too fast but they are $20 or at most $50. Even if you go thru one a year I think it's worth it lol and usually they last a few year s

Just bought alienware couple weeks ago. If you're thinking of buying this laptop as 'portable' device then do not get this. It's a giant 17" that weighs nearly 8lbs. For me, it'll stay in dock mode at home about 99% of the time. I don't care about sound/monitor since that'll be connected to external device.
