My SO got this for our bedroom last year and I ended up getting the a Toshiba variant from Woot in May for my office. Very solid AC performance, but the remote controller works glitchy as hell at times, especially when trying to turn it on/off. The MSmarthome app is really glitchy too with shutting it on and off and scheduling basically works half the time unless you set it up with 24 hour time. Alexa integration is trash if you are not the primary account holder of the unit, but otherwise works. And finally, the temperature reading, from my unscientific tests, reads about 3-4 degrees lower than it really is, so an offset would be necessary if using it with home automation stuff. Agree with everything KevoD said too. I bought camper seal foam tape from Home Depot to augment the sealing (the default adhesive is super messy to remove), and it's worked great so far.

If you can deal with those first-world problems, highly recommended!
Bought this when it was posted last month and have enjoyed it so far. Cools great (temp goes as low as 60 degrees). Only two concessions are that it periodically gets kind of loud for 10-20 seconds during regular operation (without warning) which can be a bit annoying if you're on the phone, and the insulation where the hose attaches to the window bracket could be a little better to reduce exterior noise and air flowing in when the unit is off, but otherwise have no other complaints. I imagine the insulation issue is going to be universal for any portable AC, though.
It generates a lot of heat, that's for sure. It's nothing like a space heater. You can just imagine all of the heat that goes out the hose in A/C mode is reversed into the room. It will warm up a medium-sized room very quickly.

The downsides of the heat function are:

It only works if the temp outside is above 42 degrees. So depending on your climate this may only be useful for chilly spring and autumn days.
It generates a lot of condensate so you have to hook a hose up to the highest drain and empty the bucket every now and then.
When it's cold out, and the unit is not in use but still hooked up to the window, a lot of cold air is going to come in through the duct hose. This can also cause a lot of condensation to build up underneath the unit where the cold air pours out onto the floor. You really have to pull it out of the window and shut the window when it's not in use if it's cold outside.
Make sure you wrap the duct hose with the included sleeve if using heat mode, to prevent condensate from building on the duct hose.

Overall I would say it's good for chilly spring / autumn days where you need a little extra warmth but don't want to turn on the furnace, but not so useful for very cold days like in the dead of winter.

I bought the Hisense 8k BTU portable a/c from Costco when it was 399.99 - $80 = ~$320

The Hisense one has a heatpump too but it doesn't mention inverter... Would this unit be worth the upgrade? I haven't opened the other one yet.
Many of the Midea units have a slight high pitched warbling that's audible especially when the compressor is at low speed. You can hear it at this link when the AC starts up: https://youtu.be/MnsVDysGw_I. The Hisense probably doesn't have this but is probably a bit louder.

I bought this a couple weeks ago, installed in in the horizontal sliding window in the bedroom. The window kit fit the window height of 56", I did need to pick up additional window insulation foam and that filled in the various gaps. The couple times that I used the unit it has been without any issues, not very noisy, at most it is like a 'white noise', which actually helps me to fall asleep. Buying it from Costco you can be assured of no issues with returning the unit for any reason. Happy customer here.

I just bought this because it's a dual hose.

I had a single hose unit before and it was terrible. Made the house more humid.
Single hose might be the dumbest invention of the 20th century.

Single hose is fine for most people and definitely fine if only for a bedroom or office where it cools off quickly. If your house was honestly more humid your house is not sealed well at all and I'd look into it or your unit ran for very long periods of time so not sized correctly. I have a 1975 house that is definitely not sealed well and have regular AC with two single hose units being used for two upstairs rooms and zero issues. IMO these portables, dual or single, are not good options for using as a main home AC and are best used to help in areas your regular ducted home AC struggles. Window mounted AC units are a far better option if possible for people with no AC at all in their home and they will outperform either a single or dual hose portable unit everything equal.

Anyone using this just for power outages? I just want to run it on the generator for n hours to cool a room and then close everything up when shutting down the gen at night. Looking for a temp as-needed setup, whether it is worth it or not.

If you buy two of Midea you will get discounts of 150x2+100 (Costco Direct buy 2 items get 100 off) for a total of 400 bucks off! I tried it and saw it in the check-out. But I actually purchased one 6 days ago, any idea if I buy another one I can still get the 100 off?

(Amazon and home depot sell this for 700 bucks when I checked it 5 days ago)

Similar behavior with the 12k Midea window unit - it's been great overall (VERY quiet when it's not working hard to maintain a big temp difference), but the compressor has some kinda odd behavior at times where it & the fans will throttle up then back down a bit.. not the end of the world though.

Remote is also kind of finnicky and takes some getting used to.
It's because the compressor is a dual inverter which is rare in portable ACs. If you look on the market, they're aren't that many AC's in general that use this technology. Basically the compressor has variable speeds which changes depends how much power is needed to cool vs. going 100% at all times hence the energy savings. The only other model worth looking at for portable ACs is the LG model with dual-inverter tech. I know Toshiba offers basically a rebranded version of this with the same tech.

I have issue with the kit.

I have a sliding window, and there is another frame infront of the window frame that sticks out. The kit doesn't account for this, and I cannot attach the hose properly, and the kit needs to slide down to acount from the obstruction, which would mean I need to fill that gap since it's slid down.

Anybody have a solution to this? Do I go to Home Depot to get another section cut to cover that? What the best way to seal it?

Might be best to purchase the two for the discount and return the one you previously bought. Are you thinking then of returning one of the discounted and still getting the discounted rate on the one you keep? That is a great hack if it works.

Nah going to keep both.

Let me know if that hack works.

Is the windows installation mandatory? I hate to reinstall the hose through windows every year
